9th Annual Fool’s invitational Golf Tournament

Hidden Creek Golf Course hosted the 9th Annual Fool’s Invitational New Year’s Eve Day Golf Tournament on Sunday, December 31st, 2017. Since 1991 a core group has organized and held the yearly fundraiser, they are; Sherill Donaldson & Dave Villane, Pat & Gary Griffith, Bob Crawford & Ann O’Connor, Ron & Dottie Wallis, and Jim & Velma Williams. Earlier this year the team experienced the loss of Pat Griffith. “Before he passed, Pat specifically told us he did not want this to become a memorial tournament,” said Dave Villane. “As he said (Griffith) it is about having fun with family and friends while collecting money for those less fortunate in our community.” The event once named The Jim Williams Memorial Golf Tournament, a name established when a previous founding member passed, but Williams widow requested the name change so it then became the Fools Invitational Golf Tournament. “Again, none of us ever thought it would have evolved into what it is today, a great game with an opportunity to give back to a worthy cause in our local community,” said Villane. “In Pat’s honor and with heartfelt memories we will beat last year’s fundraiser number to help feed and support South Santa Rosa County, (the event raised $11,000.00 in 2016).” This past tourney closed out 2017 and raised $11,550.00, which will go to Caring and Sharing of South Santa Rosa County’s seed money towards 2018 holiday seasonal food sharing program.
