            Caring and Sharing of South Santa Rosa County gave back to the community the weekend before Thanksgiving by boxing up non-perishable food, adding toiletries, a grocery gift card, and an Interfaith Thrift Store and Ministries holiday shopping gift certificate for over 200 families.

            The president claims in these unique times, with the need so great, there is still so much to be thankful for, and why she believes in keeping Caring and Sharing’s mission for the under resourced in the community. Volunteers were able to help this year, with the COVID-pandemic the distribution process has changed in recent years. Some come as families, some as clubs, or church groups, they have their reasons for volunteering: to repay kindness, to help their fellow man, or to reaffirm their beliefs. Whatever the reason, everyone has a common goal of brightening the holiday season for those in need.

            Folks waited patiently in their cars in a long line winding through the parking lot of Holley-Navarre Intermediate School. Volunteers helped check-in the couple hundred registered families, vehicle by vehicle, as they appreciably picked up their free Thanksgiving food box and gift cards.

            “We’re proud to continue an over forty-year-old holiday tradition started by the VanDerryt family of Navarre in giving back to our community,” Ann Thompson, Caring and Sharing President said. “For a school principal, it’s heartwarming to know the children will have a little extra food during the holiday break.”

            The nonprofit will do its seasonal second distribution the week before Christmas for the same amount of boxed food items and a grocery gift card for protein, bread, and dairy items.
